V-day Party...How To...Greater Than and Less Than

I am sorry for the late post...I have been very busy with this silly bunch of 1st graders!  We had a blast at our Valentine party/dance!!  I am still loving all the pictures.

This week we finished up our "How to" writings....we made our writing about "How to make a ________Sandwich."  The kids told us detailed information on how to make their sandwich of choice!  Yummy!!  We are have been busy reading everyday!  I can tell that some of you are reading with your children daily....it is making a huge difference!!  Go parents and grandparents!
We also started learning greater/less than....we have done many activities and have been very hands on with our math manipulatives!

Today we made google glasses....these glasses have all of our oo spelling words written on them.....we are keeping a lookout of words that have oo in them this week!

We were so excited that Baylee's Papoo came to read today....he has been busy working and we really missed him, but today was a real treat when he read to us!!  Welcome back Papoo!!

100th day!!!

We had a wonderful 100th day of school last week!!!  We even got to go on our field trip that day as well!!  How cute are these shirts that everyone made!!!  LOVE IT!!

The play we went to see was Click, Clack, Moo...Cows that type!!!  It was so cute and honestly one of the best plays I have seen there!!  I know the kids really enjoyed their time!

Can you believe all this crazy weather we have been having the past few day!!  Mercy it has been a mess trying to play catch up from last week and preparing for bad weather this week.  At least we don't have to make up any more days since we stayed in school!! Yippee!!

This week we have been on fire working so hard!!  We started our how to writings....last nights homework was "How to make a Valentine!!  We have some wonderful writers in this class I was very impressed!!!

I look forward to talking to each one of you during our parent conference time.  Make sure that you arrive during your scheduled time to talk with me and we have a 15 minute chat about all the wonderful things that your child is learning!!

Pictureless Post!

We have been so busy the past 2 days I don't even have pictures!!  This week we are working on words that have the long o sound.... oa words and ow words!  We have done a few smart board lessons that go with this word pattern and it has been so fun!

We have also published our Narrative piece and will chose our Roberts' Writers tomorrow!  I can't wait to see who has been working hard on their writing!

In Math we have started Place Value....I had a hard time with place value for some reason when I was in school, so I want to make sure that I am teaching it in a way that everyone learns and has a good understanding of what place value represents.

We have been hard at work on Reflex Math as well....I love seeing the kids get excited about learning new things!

This post is boring and I am sorry haha!!  I hope that my next post will be full of your children's faces!

Compare and Contrast, spelling, writing, and SHOE TYING!!!

This week we are revisiting comparing and contrasting!!  Let me just say that if they don't know how to do this after this week we are in trouble hahahah!!!  They love it and want to do compare and contrast things constantly!!!  We learned today that being able to compare and contrast makes us a better reader!

Spelling words for the week!!!  These can be tricking so make sure your firstie is studying everyday!!

Jhavion hard a work on his final draft of his opinion piece!!

This just makes me so happy!!!  Jacob  has learned to tie his shoes!!  This is a skill that first graders need to know and are learning as week speak....I like to make it a big deal when they learn this skill because as you know....they are going to use this often in life.  Also, for this teacher that has 25 kids time 2 feet.....that a lot of shoelaces for me to work on a daily basis!!!

No Power....No Problem

We started the morning off in the dark due to some power outages in the area....that didn't stop us from going on with our day!  We had Joslyn's dad come as our watch dog this morning.  He pulled different groups to play sight word bingo!!  The kids love one on one time!!

Meanwhile the rest of us worked our spelling words for the week!!  Jacob is the teacher and Ezra is the student!

Mrs. Stacker's class had to join us for a bit because her room is really dark so they came and reviewed with us!!
I was so glad Jovani was back today!!  He has been in Africa over the break visiting!  He even brought me back some yummy chocolate!!

We had so much fun today adapting to not having many friends with us, but it was so much fun and lots of learning, too!!!

We have been talking about Wants/Needs this week in Social Studies and I decided that I NEED this little Boston in my life!!! Sorry, I couldn't resist!
