Making Predictions, a Birthday, and Deer Teeth

Today we worked on making predictions...we looked at the cover of the book Squirrel's New Years Resolution and before we read the book we made predictions of what his resolution would be!!!  No one guess it but his resolution was to help one person a day!!!  That's a good one!!

Over the break Jessica turned 7....she is super excited!!!!  She also is very excited because Santa brought her a new puppy!!!

Check out those deer teeth...Ally's grandpa found these teeth and Ally loved showing them to the class!!

Today we continued working on our opinion piece in writing....today's goal was to add the reason we had this opinion...Matthew was really thinking hard about his reasons!  We had to write 3 complete sentences with a capital and a period!

Firsties hard a work!!

Hope everyone is staying warm out there!!!

2014...My Blogging Fingers are Back!

Will was so excited that FSU pulled off the win last night....he has been all smiles today!!!

Go Cayden Go!!!!  Looks to me like I had some friends that practiced their reading over the break....I am super impressed!!!

Since it is a new year today first thing we made a list of resolutions that we wanted to make for our classroom.....they came up with these all on their own and I think they are perfect!!!  We talked about how we were zooming into this new year and were going to start getting ready for 2nd grade!!!  We talked about how we are going to be on point in 2014 and do our very best!!

We are still working on writing opinion pieces and this weeks topic is Which do you like best? Winter or Summer!

We wrote our topic and the topic sentence today!!!!  More to come on!

Also, I am making it my person resolution to keep my blog on point during this new year.  When I was teaching pre-k I was a daily blogger and since I had the shock of a lifetime and moved to 1st grade I needed some time to get my feet wet....well they are ready to go now and I promise to do better!!  I have an audience that needs my attention :)  You know who you are!

I was going to try and go back and try to play catch up but that is too hard:)

Lets Spell....and Ship Change

Thursday we practiced our Spelling Words, but playing student/teacher....one calls the words the other spells and then they switch....THEY LOVE IT!!!!

We made these cute sequencing things using the story There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Pie

Check out Matthew using his reading strategies.....if you look close his eyes are glancing at the pictures to make sure that he knows the word he is about to read....AMAZING!!!!

Today we pulled up different kinds of boats to see if the Mayflower may have looked like any of these.....then we played agree or disagree and paired up with our partners to chat!!  Some GOOD learning going on up in here:)

Retro Cafe x2, Ole Miss Madness, Learning and some cuties!

Last week our class got to eat in the Retro CafĂ© 2 times!!!  This is huge people!!!  We have worked so hard on our dining room behavior so we are very lucky to go twice in a week!  I told the kids if we ever got it twice I would do a cartwheel in the room......I honestly didn't expect this to ever happen....sure enough it did!!!  I didn't disappoint!
This was so fun we had at the end of last week!!!  We voted on who would win the Razorback game.....Thanks to Olivia Bean for getting everyone on board to vote for her parents favorite team OLE MISS!!!!  Oh well, the best team won haha!!!

Also we wrote about what we were thankful for this Thanksgiving Season.....Neil wrote about how he was thankful for me.....MELT MY HEART!!!  We also did some work on the ipads during guided reading groups....these kids are reading machines!!!  We learned that when we don't have the answer to a question on what to investigate something further we can ask GOOGLE to help us!!!  We just have to make sure we spell things correctly:)

These too cuties came to show me a turkey they made in their kinder class!!!  They have Mrs. Hardin for their teachers and we are big buds!!!

TH is for Thinking Thumbs!!

Today we made thinking thumbs since all of our spelling words start or end with th!!!  The kids decorated their thumbs then they went around the room looking for words/objects that had a th sound in them!!  We listened to music while we made me these and got our brains ready for thinking....have them use their thinking thumbs tonight at home!!!  I posted a video in the previous post!
