LEARNING IS FUN!!!!

This week we are been learning about Fact and Opinion!  We are about to start writing an opinion piece and we needed to know what an opinion was!!  We sorted different facts and different opinions so we would be be sure.  They did awesome!!

We worked in table groups to play a fun subtraction math game!!  We had to find the difference and then sort!

Miss Sugarplum really surprised us yesterday morning when she had made herself a tie and took pictures with Flat Stanley!!  I think they loved it!!!

Our Elf journals arrived yesterday from the North Pole and so now we can document each day what Miss Sugarplum is up to!  If she does anything horrible we are supposed to report to "THE BOSS"

Constance brought 2 blankets for the Blanket for Babies drive!!!  We get DOJO points if we bring blankets!!!  GO CONSTANCE!!!!

Grace telling/showing the class how she worked her math problem!!!  GO GRACE!!

This morning Sugar left a super sweet message!!!

Introducing Miss Sugarplum!

Yesterday, a little elf from the North Pole arrived in room 116!  To say the kids were thrilled was an understatement!  They have been asking me for weeks when and if an elf would come to our classroom!  I told them that hopefully one would but that Santa would make the final call on that!  After pullout yesterday we arrived back to the class to see that a little girl elf was sitting with an official letter from Santa!  She left us a list of names that we could chose from for her official elf name!  The class chose Miss Sugarplum.  The kids are very excited and I can't wait to see what all she has in store till break!    More to come!

Pictureless Post

So sorry I haven't posted lately we have been very busy FIRSTIES!!!

The past couple of weeks we have been busy reading more and more!  Each night a book bag is sent home that is familiar so that we can become stronger in our reading.  This book bag is very important to help with comprehension and fluency!

We also have been learning to write bigger and better sentences.  We learned that we can add conjunctions in our sentences to join a sentence together.  We are also trying to write new words that we are learning.  This is exciting that we are becoming such FAB writers.

We also have  been working on our home project of disguising our turkey so that he won't be eaten for Thanksgiving!!!  I have seen some pretty cute ones come in already!!!

Sorry for the no picture post, but I promise some cute ones are coming!

Janya was helping us build our spelling words!  We build the words every Monday to help us learn the skill for the week!

This is probably my favorite book of all times!!  I highly recommend it!  When tattling gets out of control this is my go to!!  I think we were just about to get a case of tattle tongue but luckily we read this book just in time....so far no TT in this class!!  WOOOOHOOOOO!!

These are the Tattle Rules that the book talks about I highly recommend them if you ever need them at home:)

Our class WON FIRST IN MATH for 1st grade.  This means our class worked more problems than in class in first for the week!!  We have the trophy outside our classroom!!

TH is for THINKING THUMB!!!  You would be amazed at home many TH words we can come up with we are wearing our Thinking Thumbs!!

The jury is still out what I should be for Halloween so we are writing to see if they can convince me to be their choice!!!

Mystery Reader and Speical Teacher Treat!

Friday we had Noah's mom as our Mystery reader and she let Noah pick out some of his favorite books so read!  His little sister came, too!  She will be in Kinder next year!
We love Mystery Reader Friday.  If you haven't signed up we would love to have you:)

At the beginning of each month the teachers get a special little gift in our boxes.  This months treat is super cute and looks like a broom stick:)  Aislynn's mom is in charge of all the yummy treats and the teachers really appreciate them:)

Playing Catch Up!!

Last week our skill that we were learning was Story Elements.  One thing that the kids in the past love to make is a story taco!  This has all of the elements on different colors of paper to represent Title, Characters, Setting and Plot!  This is something fun that you can do with your child after every book:)

Book Character Day was a huge success.  I think the kids really enjoyed dressing up and celebrating books!  Getting kids to love to read at an early age is key to life long learning!  I loved to read as a child and still do today!!!  Look at all of these cute firsties!!!

Since First Graders LOVE Junie B. Jones we thought it would be fun for the first grade teachers to all dress up like a different JUNIE B. book.  Yes we look crazy, but it was fun!

Happy Birthday CONSTANCE!!!  She is 7 today!

Today we started writing our SLOPPY COPY that we will edit for our final piece on narratives.  This first narrative is about "Our Special Day"!  I think I have a really great group of writers this year and I can't want to hang their published pieces in the hallways!
